Global Entry Enrollment on Departure: Where You Can Do Your Interview Before a Flight

By SnapSlot · Published October 27, 2026

You've been conditionally approved for Global Entry, but the interview slots at your nearest enrollment center are booked for months. If you're flying out of Miami or Detroit soon, there may be a shortcut: you can finish the interview at the airport before your flight, with no appointment.

Enrollment on Departure (EoD) lets conditionally approved applicants complete the Global Entry interview at the airport before a same-day flight. CBP currently lists two airports: Miami International (MIA) and Detroit Metro (DTW). You need to be flying out of that airport that day, and you need to be conditionally approved first.

Quick Answers

Who can use it?Conditionally approved Global Entry applicants who are flying out of the airport that day, on a domestic or international flight.
What do I bring?Your valid passport, proof of residency (not required for minors), and your permanent resident card if you have one.

Washington Dulles (IAD) was reported by travel outlets as an Enrollment on Departure airport, but it isn't on CBP's current list. Treat CBP's page as the authority, and check it before you plan around any airport.

Enrollment on Departure vs. Enrollment on Arrival

Both let you skip the enrollment center appointment, but they work at opposite ends of a trip.

Step by Step: Doing Your Interview Before a Flight

  1. Get conditional approval first. Apply online through your Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) account and wait for CBP to conditionally approve you. You can't be interviewed before that happens.
  2. Check that your flight leaves from Miami or Detroit. The interview is for travelers flying out that day, so plan it around a flight you already have.
  3. Check the hours. Miami is listed Monday through Saturday and Detroit Monday through Friday, so a weekend flight out of Detroit won't work.
  4. Arrive early. Allow extra time on top of your normal airport arrival time, so a line at the interview desk doesn't cost you the flight.
  5. Find the Global Entry area. Follow signage to the CBP Global Entry enrollment area, using the locations in the table above.
  6. Bring your documents. Your valid passport (all of them, if you travel on more than one), proof of residency such as a current driver's license, mortgage statement, rental payment statement or utility bill, and your permanent resident card if you have one. Proof of residency isn't required for minors.
  7. Complete the interview and confirm your membership. After a successful interview your Global Entry status is activated in your TTP account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment for Enrollment on Departure?

No. CBP lists Enrollment on Departure as an interview option for same-day air travelers at the listed airports, so you don't book a slot in the TTP scheduler. Check the hours first, since CBP lists specific days and times for each airport.

Can I use Enrollment on Departure with a domestic flight?

Yes. CBP's page describes the option for "same day domestic or international air travelers" at the listed airports.

Can I do Enrollment on Departure if I'm not conditionally approved yet?

No. You must apply and be conditionally approved in your TTP account first. Enrollment on Departure replaces the enrollment center interview, not the application.

Why isn't Washington Dulles on the list?

Travel outlets have reported Dulles as an Enrollment on Departure airport, but CBP's current page lists only Miami and Detroit. Check CBP's page before you travel, since the list can change.

What do I need to bring to Enrollment on Departure?

Your valid passport, proof of residency (not required for minors), and your permanent resident card if you have one. If you need a disability-related accommodation, tell the interviewing officer right away. CBP says the interview may be rescheduled to another location if the accommodation isn't available.

If You Can't Fly Out of Miami or Detroit

A lot of travelers won't be flying from one of these two airports ... if that's you, your other options are Enrollment on Arrival (when you return from an international trip), a regular enrollment center, or a remote interview if you qualify. If every center is booked, our guide to what to do when there are no appointments covers how to catch cancellations, or you can check live availability at every center.
